How it all went down
Back in October, when I asked Rachel out I immediately started planning for the next big surprise for her. I knew she was going to be coming to my house for Thanksgiving and would meet my family, so I wanted to return the favor. I started planning to visit her family over Christmas break. I kept silent about the whole thing since about oct 29th until I got here on the 16th of December.
Here was her reaction:
When I walked into my house, it was about 1am. I said hello to my parents, sisters, and met my new little nephew. I was about ready to go to bed when I was interrupted by a phone call. It just so happened to be Jeremy. I told him he had excellent timing since I had just walked in the door. He kinda laughed and then he told me he had a strange question to ask me. He asked me to go to the back of the house. Then when I got back there, he told me that whatever I was looking for was in the dining room (where he called me to begin with).
There was Jeremy. Basically, I couldn't say or do anything. My jaw dropped open and the cell phone fell out of my hand. I had no trouble processing Jeremy or my family, but seeing them together just was not making sense. My brother-in-law took pictures and then we talked for a while, but it took me at least a full 24 hours to register that Jermey had come for Christmas.
It still amazes me that he had kept his surprise visit a secret for that amount of time. Apparently, my roommate and several other close friends were in on this from the beginning. Not only that, but Jeremy had been at my house for 36 hours before I got home. My family and most of my church friends had kept this a secret the entire time! All this to say, I have never been so happily surprised in my life.
That was her reaction. Thanks for reading

God prepares
I was hit with an interesting thought the other day - the other day being yesterday. Relationships might not be all that easy or fun, it might require some work on my part. Up until now the relationship has very nicely fallen into place. I have had to do very little or at least no hard work to get it where it is now. I tell you what though, it isn't always that way. I knew this before, but I had little experience with it before now. It wasn't even that bad, I was just tired and all kinds of selfishness came out of me. I wasn't thinking about Rachel or others, just because I was tired and a little stressed.
I thank God for this though, it is good practice to when things get tougher. I would much rather work my way up to a real hard experience to be selfless, than to start there. I think that it is so amazing to know that God is preparing me for harder situations by using these smaller ones. All I have to do is learn from these small ones and the big ones that are coming won't even seem that bad.
This isn't the only time that this situation has happened. God has used small things before to prepare me for big things to come. This is another reason not to complain or grumble about the trials and events that life gives us, because really they are helpful for growth if we learn from them. That is why we can count it as joy when we fall into trials, as James says, because the trials that test us help us to grow to be complete.

Paid!
I went to go pay for tuition yesterday - hoping to take another chunk out of it for this semester's payments. To my surprise, I had received enough money over break to pay for not only this semester in full, but also to pay $4.60 toward next semester. I was very joyful about that. I didn't even use all the money given to me. I still have enough to give and some for a date possibly. Thanks again to those that help make these kinds of things possible. One semester down, three more to go! I'm loving and learning from every minute of it!
