Paid!

I just put in my last check to pay for last semester, now start saving for next semester. I have 17 days before I have to pay again. But praise the Lord that He provided enough for me to get through this one.

Bike Maintenance

Today is the day that I decided to do some much needed maintenance on my 20+ year old bike. Since I have no idea when the last time anything was done to that bike I figured it would be a good idea. Another, what I thought to be, good idea was to do this outside. It is 80 and sunny, what a better day to be outside and working on my bike. I figured nothing could happen differently than if I were inside except maybe a sunburn.

Then I dropped a barring to my fount wheel in the grass! That is the difference right there. What am I going to do? "I need all the barrings and I need them today" I thought to myself. Then I remembered that I threw away a junk wheel from another bike the other day. The next thing I knew I was in a dumpster pulling out a wheel off an old huffy. Praise God that the barrings were the same size. I was very thankful; still mad that I lost one though.

The back wheel went a lot easier than the front did. I wasn't able to the cassette off, but I was able to work around it, so that worked out. I am a bit angry that my tool designed for that did not work. oh well.

I pulled an old bike out of the trash. I think that I will fix it.

6-22-2010

It is roughly exactly 3 months to my 21 first birthday. Just saying.

I got my bike tools today in the mail, I am very excited to use them and clean my bike up real good. It could really use it. It has not been cleaned since I got it, and when I got it, it was 20 years old. I'm afraid of what I might find in there.

My Dad is amazing for starters, and now he is starting to ride again. Very exciting. I got him a bike for last father's day, but he has yet to ride it much. I think he rode it once or twice. I just got an email from him saying that he is going to start riding though. Hopefully we can do a longer ride together sometime soon. I would like that a lot.

I watched: The Book Of Eli the other night. It was a great movie, other than a few parts. I was very inspired by it. I also like to over analyze movies and try to learn from them and not just be entertained by them. I am challenged by Eli's respect for the Bible and devotion to it. He read "it every day, without fail." and he could quote the whole thing. I can't even do a whole chapter, much less the whole bible!? Incredible!

Bike and swim

I rode my bike to church today as I normally do. I didn't have any problems other than my tires being low on air, but that was on the way there. As soon as church was over it started to rain; not just rain, but poured! Everything was try and then before I knew it there was puddles everywhere from the rain. I waited out the major storm at some friends house, but I still ended up riding in the rain. All ten wonderfully wet miles.

By the time that I made it back to campus I was ringing out my nylon shirt. I was basically swimming and biking at the same time, it was so wet. [note: rain at 25mph hurts more than you would think] The good news was that I wasn't dehydrated when I got back.

I need to get a tool set so I can tear apart my bike and get it cleaned out. I have ridden twice now in the rain and have not had the chance to clean the thing yet. Poor bike.

Other than that not a whole lot has been going on lately. I have gone running a few different times, not that far though. I tried to go swimming the other day, but found out rather quickly that I am not a good swimmer. I didn't drowned or anything, but I wasn't able to swim as far as I would have liked. I guess it will just take some time and practice. I don't think it helped that I have to bike 10 miles to go swimming either.

Random events of the afternoon:

I was riding my bike from work to my room and I almost hit a squirrel. I thought to myself, "how would I explain this one? I just made road kill going 13 miles an hour?!"

I want to copy my brother and train for a triathlon. Even if I never actually do one, I want to start running and swimming. I find out that new shoes are around $70, but at National Running Center I found a great deal! A got a lightly used pare for under $40! So now I have $30 more dollars than I expected to have.

Other than those events not a whole lot has happened. Ladies LYFE was this last weekend... glad that is over! 600 women in one place is scary. Just saying.

And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.
