Rachel and I do not "celebrate" Valentine's day. She asked me over the weekend what my thoughts were and I replied by saying it's when you get a great deal on candy. She agreed. We do like each other for sure, but neither of us wants money to be spent on us, which I agree. There are far better things to spend money on, like other people, missions trips, or at least people that actually want something for Valentines day.
Last year was awesome. Instead of Rachel and I getting something for each other, we pooled our money and got something for the single female staff at our school. I think it meant more to give a box of candy than to get one. I look forward to what opportunities await me today to give and serve those who really need something.
The weekend was incredible in so many ways. It was incredibly tiring, encouraging, refreshing, relaxing, cold, short, and so forth. Rachel and some other BBC students came out to visit/interview for the internship during our winter retreat. They drove nearly 16 hours, got as little as 12 hours of sleep the whole weekend, and had to pay for the whole trip. Yet when you ask them if it was worth it, they would all agree that it was. It was an awesome time to invest in students and get away from the craziness of life for a few days. On a spiritual note, I needed the weekend. I have been realizing that I have a good deal of pride and self-righteousness, but this weekend did me in. But even that was encouraging for me.
On the job front, I have two jobs that I am pursuing right now. Both of them in the PA area, one of them with possibility of transferring after a while. I am still not sure where God will place Rachel and I, it is an adventure just waiting to see. I can't even imagine what it is going to be like when we finally get married. Whoa, crazy. So is going to happen!
Speaking of getting married. A good friend of mine just got engaged over the weekend! I am super excited for both of them, they have been a great help to both Rachel and I. It is good to see they are joining the ranks of the engaged. I talked with him last night, he is starting to feel the overwhelming feeling of being engaged and the emotional mess it brings. I told him it last about a month - at least for me. It might be longer for him because he can actually see his fiancee more than twice a month. Oh, I am so excited. I hope I get invited.
Blessings
Later
